MOP to invest US$15 million in protection works to benefit families in Ilopango

The Ministerio de Obras Públicas (MOP) has accelerated mitigation works in various parts of the country, taking advantage of the fact that it is not the rainy season. For 2022, it plans to make a millionaire investment in risk prevention works. In the municipality of Ilopango, more than US$15 million will be allocated.

The head of the MOP, Romeo Rodríguez, said that they will carry out other works in sectors where there are problems of gullies or floods and will carry out the necessary works to reduce vulnerability.

Some of the areas planned to be intervened this year in this municipality are: El Chagüite river, Santa Lucía colony, El Matazano colony and Belén community.

In the case of the Chagüite river, the MOP has plans to develop erosion control works in the riverbed, to prevent it from continuing to cause gullies in the area. Meanwhile, in the Santa Lucía neighborhood, they will seek to solve the flooding problem affecting the inhabitants.

Precisely, the flooding problem in the Santa Lucía neighborhood is largely due to the closing of rainwater wells in both the El Matazano and Belén neighborhoods, since this causes all the water flow to concentrate in the El Triángulo area, hence the importance of executing all these projects.

These works will be added to the works that are about to be completed in Las Cañas, Ilopango, where work is being done to completely eliminate a gully that was formed years ago. With an investment of more than US$500 thousand, benefiting 8,500 families of Las Cañas and surrounding areas.
