Mexico and El Salvador to expand Sembrando Vida and Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro programs

The President of the United Mexican States, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, made an official visit to El Salvador today, as part of his tour of Central America and the Caribbean.

During his stay, the mexican president held an important bilateral meeting with President Nayib Bukele, in which agreements were reached to continue changing the lives of the population and creating conditions to stop irregular migration.

In this context, the meeting agreed to expand the Sembrando Vida and Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro programs, aimed at forging a better future for salvadorans.

"I am very pleased to announce that at the proposal of President Bukele, the Sembrando Vida and Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro programs will be doubled. The Government of El Salvador and the Government of Mexico are going to contribute the same amount", said the mexican President during the joint declaration.

In El Salvador, Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro has benefited 10,000 people; of these, 44% are women and 56% men. All of them receive a monthly economic contribution of US$180, in order to contribute to their job training, through 427 work centers; working in administrative areas, service, sales, commerce, industry, science and technology, and agriculture and livestock sector.

Of these young people, 58% were trained in the private sector, 25% in the public sector and 17% in social organizations. As part of the results of this program, 84 % of the scholarship holders had their first approach to the labor market and 25 % received a job offer in the same place where they were trained, informed Mexico's head of state.

Meanwhile, the initiative also had a positive impact on the lives of the participants, as many reversed their decision to migrate from the territory, achieving a reduction from 35.7 % to 11.4 %, among those who, before, valued leaving the country where they were born, said López Obrador.

"We are taking the seedbed away from the gangs, so that young people have the possibility of studying and working", emphasized the Mexican dignitary, and remarked his satisfaction for contributing to the wellbeing of salvadoran citizens.

Regarding the Sembrando Vida program, a bet to reforest spaces and generate thousands of jobs, he said that this also benefits 10,000 salvadorans, directly. Both initiatives are financed through the Agencia Mexicana de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AMEXCID).
