In view of the entry into force of Legislative Decree 90, which suspends concentration activities and public events, the Ministry of Tourism clarified that tourism related activities continue as normal, but urged the sector to reinforce sanitary measures to guarantee safe operations and avoid contagion of its clients and personnel.

The decree prohibits only concerts, sports events open to the public, patron saint festivals and rallies.

"These activities (suspended for 90 days) in the transitory law are those that easily generate person-to-person transmission", said the minister of Health, Francisco Alabí.

He also said that all other activities not contemplated in the decree, such as tourism, can continue their development, but it is mandatory to wear masks, limit the capacity in restaurants and guarantee social distancing.

He added that, in the case of hotels, cafes, shopping malls, squares, parks, and practically all commercial activity, blended classes, among others, are not affected by the decree.

"We must not lower our guard" and invited business owners to reinforce the implementation of biosecurity protocols, including the mandatory use of masks for customers and employees, as well as promoting vaccination among employees of tourist establishments", said Morena Valdez, minister of Tourism.

She said that the attendance to the parks is not prohibited by the decree, "however, what we are asking the population is to resume the prevention measures against contagions", among them to prefer open spaces, to carry out activities only with their cluster, to maintain social distancing, among others.

The official said that as part of the Programa Nacional Turismo con Bioseguridad y Calidad, companies continue to be certified nationwide with the verification seal granted by the Organismo Salvadoreño de Normalización (OSN).

"Recently the OSN has delivered this seal to companies in the east and west of the country, which makes El Salvador a pioneer in the implementation of a verification seal throughout the tourism value chain, based on technical standards to generate confidence to national and international tourists", she said.

The Minister recalled that, at the beginning of the pandemic, a roadmap was created for the reactivation of tourism that includes the biosecurity pillar, creating as a first action the eight biosecurity protocols for the industry, which were evaluated by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), granting El Salvador the Safe Destination seal.

The authorities urged the companies to continue providing and promoting quality services, an extremely important aspect due to the fact that Covid-19 continues to circulate in the salvadoran territory.
