The Asociación Salvadoreña de Industriales (ASI) is at the forefront of efforts focused on environmental sustainability and seeks to contribute to the construction of resilient and sustainable economic systems.

Within the framework of the UN Conference on Climate Change (COP26), ASI will hold a high-level regional event on environmental sustainability, called the Congreso Regional de Sostenibilidad Ambiental (CRESA), which seeks to create a space for discussion and analysis on issues such as sustainable management of water resources, reduction of greenhouse gases, air quality, and efficient waste management.

It will also address the challenges facing the industry and at the same time contribute to the search for a green recovery in the face of the Covid.19 crisis.

The Congreso Regional de Sostenibilidad Ambiental, to be held in virtual format on July 21 and 22, with the participation of prominent international and national speakers, becomes a space in which industries can expand their knowledge on environmental sustainability, addressing issues that expose the need to promote sustainable development through green recovery and efficient use of natural and energy resources.

This congress seeks to create an industrial cooperation with strategic support whose function is to promote and encourage the development of sustainability, and efficient use of natural resources and at the same time promote the exchange of experiences among various international organizations focused on sustainable management of water resources, reduction of greenhouse gases, air quality and efficient management of waste and residues.

Internationally recognized specialists will participate in CRESA, such as Dr. Peter Harvey, Director, Water, Sanitation and Education (UNICEF), who is in charge of the inaugural keynote lecture entitled: The UN perspective on Environmental Sustainability and the role of private companies: opportunities for Central America.

Also participating will be Dr. Alexandre Hedjazi, Director of the Instituto de Ciencias Ambientales de la Universidad de Ginebra, who will address the topic: Integration of the SDGs to Green Industrial Recovery; Dr. Matteo Tarantino, Professor at the Instituto de Ciencias Ambientales de la Universidad de Ginebra/ Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, Milán, Italia, whose dissertation is focused on Sustainable data and data for sustainability: challenges and best practices in harnessing data for an improved future.

The regional vision of SICA towards a green recovery will be presented by the expert, Jair Urriola Quiróz, Executive Secretary of the Comisión Centroamericana de Ambiente y Desarrollo (CCAD) of SICA; and the topic: Conscious Capitalism and Sustainability, by Cipriano López González, Vice President of Innovation and Sustainability of Banco Agrícola.

CRESA also counts with the participation of Kenneth Pantuck, senior environmental scientist at US EPA, who will speak on the production of biochar from swine and poultry waste; Paul Ruesch, On-Site Coordinator (OSC) at US EPA, who is in charge of the topic Prevention, minimization and responsible management of industrial waste and programs for the Revitalization of Land and Former Industrial Facilities.
