Defensoría and MAG verified prices of fruits and vegetables in "La Tiendona"

The Defensoría del Consumidor (DC) and the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería, provided details of the price verification of fruits and vegetables in the wholesale Market "La Tiendona".

So far the Defensoría del Consumidor has carried out 95 thousand price verifications nationwide, of more than 290 investigations to companies, 65 cases have been presented to the sanctioning court for unjustified price increase, 38 of the 65 have already been admitted.

The minister of MAG, Enrique Parada, said that the Central Government is promoting actions to guarantee national production, such as credits, inputs and technical advice that are part of the accompaniment of farmers.

According to the Defensoría del Consumidor, the harvest in the country is close to supplying domestic markets, reducing imports of fruits and vegetables.

The verifications are part of the 11 economic measures implemented by the Central Government to help combat speculation and unjustified price increases in basic food products throughout the country.

In addition, the verification aims to ensure that salvadoran families have products at affordable prices and quality.

Officials of the Defensoría del Consumidor also conducted inspections in basic grains sales businesses in the market of Colón, Santa Ana.

With the purpose that there are no increases in the prices of corn, beans, rice or wheat and thus not affect the pockets of salvadorans. They also inspected some of the gas stations in the departments of Santa Ana and Ahuachapán, which are among a conglomerate of 165 companies, both fuel and propane gas, which are accused of not complying with the Law, for which the Ministry of Economy has initiated sanctioning processes and if their faults are proven, the fines can reach up to US$100 thousand.
