Assembly approves public events that comply with rigorous biosafety measures

Written by Alondra Gutiérrez

The Legislative Assembly reformed “Disposiciones Especiales y Transitorias de Suspensión de Concentraciones Públicos o Privados”, and with 66 votes authorized the realization of some events that comply with the proper biosecurity measures, in order to prevent Covid-19.

The Ministerio de Salud (MINSAL) will be the entity in charge of carrying out the respective analysis and evaluation of the activities to be developed. Among the aspects to be taken into account are the number of attendees, the number of venues and compliance with biosafety measures.

Once MINSAL has given the authorization, it will be the organizer's responsibility to guarantee the mandatory compliance with the measures. Failure to comply with these provisions may result in the revocation of the permit.

In addition, the Legislative Decree suspended for a period of 90 days any concentration of people in public or private events related to concerts, rallies, sporting events open to the public or patron saint celebrations in order to contain the spread of Covid-19.

"It should be clarified that at no time have tourist activities been closed, but it is necessary to take into account biosecurity measures. Theaters are safe spaces where each presentation lasts less than an hour", said Suecy Callejas, deputy and vice-president of the Board of Directors.
