The minister of Public Works, Romeo Rodríguez, signed the contract for the construction of the Francisco Morazán viaduct with the team leader of the Dongbu Corporation of South Korea, Sung Hwan Lee, with an investment of US$372 million.
The official also explained that the signing of this contract is the largest road infrastructure project to be developed in El Salvador, and explained that this is possible thanks to the country's good relations with South Korea.
According to the minister, the project will be built in three sections, the first of which has a length of 4.79 kilometers, is a widening of the road to eight lanes, four in each direction; it starts in Santa Tecla, at the junction of the Panamericana Highway with the San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez Boulevard.
The second is the viaduct of about one kilometer, which will become the largest bridge ever built in the country and will start in the municipality of Colón and will reach the sector known as La Pedrera; while the third one has a length of 8.95 kilometers, starting where the viaduct ends and up to the San Juan Opico detour.
In addition, there will be important engineering works to guarantee the agile and safe passage of drivers and there will be drainage works, viewpoints, lighting, safe returns and bicycle lanes in San Juan Opico.
This project is one of the answers provided by the Central Government to improve the connectivity of the country, which will improve the quality of life of the population thanks to the ease of transportation in less time, not only for citizens but also for goods.
