According to the Directorate General of Civil Protection of the Republic of El Salvador, more than 880 homes have suffered varying levels of damage in the municipalities of Ahuachapán, San Lorenzo, Atiquizaya and El Refugio. The funds will be used to purchase supplies for humanitarian assistance, hire machinery and rehabilitate basic services such as water, clean roads and shelters, among others, as well as to prioritize the care of 48 collapsed homes.
"We are the Bank of Central Americans and we are ready to extend our hand of solidarity to our member countries when they require it, especially during emergencies caused by natural disasters such as this seismic swarm that has affected hundreds of salvadoran families and we hope that, with this approved assistance, we can provide them with comprehensive attention and minimize the damage caused", said CABEI executive president Dante Mossi.
The region is currently facing frequent climate crises that lead to disasters and emergencies, and CABEI will continue to support its member countries in taking prevention, response, mitigation and recovery measures to guarantee the lives and safety of their citizens.
