USAID and PROLECHE sign agreement to improve the competitiveness of the dairy value chain in the country

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Asociación de Productores de Leche de El Salvador (PROLECHE) signed a grant agreement to implement an initiative aimed at increasing the competitiveness of the dairy value chain in seven municipalities of the Eje Urbano de Occidente.

Over 11 months, the USAID Project will develop new productive capacities, implement sanitary techniques and standards within milk-producing MSMEs to meet the quality demanded by the industry, and strengthen the commercial relationships of milk-producing micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and anchor companies.

"PROLECHE has more than 45 years. This initiative is expected to generate US$1.21 million in sales, 400 new jobs, and 85 small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) directly strengthened comprehensive services aimed at:

  • Improve productive processes.
  • Strengthen the sanitary areas of SMEs through a specialized laboratory for the dairy sector.
  • Strengthen commercial relations with the anchor La Salud and Agrosanía companies.

"The companies that participate in this initiative will receive technical assistance to improve the quality of milk and increase their production, with this initiative USAID contributes to reduce the gap between the quality and quantity of milk required by the dairy processing industry", said Carlos Arce, USAID manager for El Salvador.
