The Acting Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Óscar Enrique Guardado signed the fourth addendum to the agreement for the Promotion of Agricultural Reactivation and Production for Food Security in El Salvador.

The Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira, Colombia, the UNESCO Chairs and the Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura (IICA) will jointly offer an International Diploma in Bioeconomy Applied to the Coffee Value Chain, in virtual mode, whose registration can be done online until august 5, 2023.

El Salvador and Belize will strengthen their joint work with the el Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura (IICA) to promote the modernization of their agricultural sectors, consolidate their production chains and focus on food security in their territories, said the main agricultural authorities of both countries during a visit to Costa Rica.

In a context of resource scarcity and impacts due to extreme weather events, the digitization of agriculture can boost the sustainability, resilience and profitability of the sector and underpin food security, but the digital transformation of this activity must be inclusive and not leave any producer behind, said specialists from the University of Cordoba, Spain, at an international seminar held by the Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura (IICA). 

The Suelos Vivos de las Américas program has achieved concrete results, 28 months after its launch, and is generating a growing awareness of the importance of soil health for food security in the continent and globally.

The main business and industrial associations of the Americas dedicated to the production and processing of sugar, alcohol, corn, sorghum, soybean, vegetable oil and grains, among other products of the agricultural sector, formed the Coalición Panamericana de Biocombustibles Líquidos (CPBIO), with the objective of coordinating the elaboration, promotion and sustainable consumption of these clean energies in the hemisphere.

As a result of six virtual business rounds, 3,248 companies from Latin America and the Caribbean were able to establish appointments and their respective business intentions for US$148 million, since the first of these meetings in 2020.

The objective of the Organización de Información de Mercados de las Américas (OIMA), whose technical secretariat is provided by the Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura (IICA) is to encourage networking among the different regions of the hemisphere to promote activities that disseminate market price information on agricultural products efficiently and with the support of digital technologies.

The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) will launch this Thursday, December 1, the study "Rural connectivity in Latin America and the Caribbean: status, challenges and actions for digitization and sustainable development," in a virtual event with the participation of ministers and secretaries of agriculture of countries in the region and representatives of the private sector.

The Knowledge Management for the Adaptation of Family Agriculture to Climate Change (INNOVA AF) project, implemented in eight countries of the Americas by the International Fondo Internacional de Desarrollo Agrícola (FIDA) and the Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura (IICA), has benefited 2,636 families over the past three years, who have improved their climate adaptation practices and have greater knowledge to improve their income and quality of life.
