Ministry of Finance requests extension to keep fuel prices fixed until august

Today, the Minister of Finance, Alejandro Zelaya, submitted a request for an extension to the Legislative Assembly to maintain fixed fuel prices until august 31, 2022.

In addition, the pieces delivered to the Assembly, request the extension of the suspension of the collection of the war tax (FEFE) and the suspension of the collection of the Contribución Especial al Transporte Público (COTRANS). Both initiatives imply a reduction of US$0.26 cents per gallon of fuel.

This is part of the implementation of 11 measures in response to the world inflation, caused by the different crises directly affecting the global economy.

Zelaya, expressed that the world context is not over, El Salvador has been the only country in the region where inflation decreased.

With the presentation of the initiatives, the Treasury Minister said that his only objective is to protect the pockets of salvadorans.

He also said that last year the country closed with record figures in private investment, we hope to close this year in the same way, but we must take counter-cyclical decisions to protect the pockets of salvadorans.
