MINEC opens registration for the third edition of the Copa Mundial de Emprendimiento

The Ministry of Economy (MINEC), launches several initiatives to promote the development of entrepreneurs, who represent an important link in the dynamization of the Salvadoran economy. For this reason, it implements actions to promote an innovation ecosystem that aims to establish a connection between this sector and national and international actors.

Today, the Ministry of Economy and the Secretariat of Innovation announced the call for the third edition of the Entrepreneurship World Cup 2022 and invited national entrepreneurs to start and scale their businesses. This is a business pitch competition with access to a global platform, virtual training resources, world-class mentors, potential investment and a chance for life-changing prizes.

The minister of Economy, María Luisa Hayem, said that "this has been an excellent opportunity to show the potential that El Salvador has" and added that the cup has become a country program, which contributes to empower national entrepreneurs. "In the first edition of this cup there were seven sponsors, this experience made the second edition have more than 17 partners. I am proud to announce that, now, we have 45 local and international partners”, she said.

The general director of Innovation, Andrés Ortiz, said that, in El Salvador, since 2020, there has been the participation of more than 600 entrepreneurs in each edition, and various prizes valued at more than $100,000 have been awarded. "As of today, we enable registrations, entrepreneurs with business models with operations started and ventures in growth stage", he said.

This year's national call incorporates the special category of Web 3.0, in line with the digital nation crypto ecosystem, where actions will be developed to accompany entrepreneurs who generate solutions using blockchain technology. Microsoft El Salvador is one of the partners accompanying the country in this effort, the country general manager, Jaime Menéndez, said the commitment to support the initiatives of the territory, which contribute to economic recovery.
