With 75 votes the Legislative Assembly approved a reform to the Electronic Signature Law, with the purpose of giving validity and facilitating the use of electronic documents in El Salvador.

With the reforms made to said law, improvements are obtained in aspects such as legal security for the providers of certification services and storage of electronic documents, as well as for the users of said services.

Likewise, concepts were defined and expanded and new services offered by certification providers were added, such as: website certification, time stamp and electronic seal.

The approval and issuance of these reforms will contribute to strengthen and dynamize the investment climate of the country, encouraging new business models in the mentioned services, and by facilitating and encouraging the use of electronic signatures, El Salvador is being led to the path of digitization, taking great steps in the competitiveness, and progress of the nation.

This is due to the fact that in five years there have been advances in the use of technology, it was necessary to update concepts and terms in the Law.

Among the benefits of the certified electronic signature for the public from the large company to every salvadoran citizen, are the following:

  • Agility:

By eliminating the need to print, sign on paper and manage all documentation on paper, the electronic signature brings significant time savings for all those involved

  • Mobility:

Thanks to the electronic signature, all those involved can sign documentation at any time and from anywhere, through a computer or cell phone, without the need to go to physical offices; which leads to savings in mobility costs, added to the comfort of not having to mobilize.

  • Centralized document management:

With digitization and electronic signature, all signed documentation can be made available in digital format, duly validated, which greatly facilitates access and consultation by stakeholders through various online areas.

  • Security:

The certified electronic signature allows to ensure the identity of the signatory or signer and that the message has not been altered since it was signed and sent, this through asymmetric cryptographic systems that provide security.

  • Responsibility with the environment:

With the use of digital platforms and the certified electronic signature, the use of paper in the various processes, procedures and forms of communication will be drastically reduced, thus contributing to the reduction of carbon dioxide, the conservation of the planet's forests, thus improving the quality of the planet's air and generating savings.

The electronic signature will speed up processes, automate tasks and reduce operating costs such as paper, ink and the entire management of physical document archiving, as well as expedite the closing of sales in commercial processes, thus speeding up billing cycles.
