Economy Commission seeks to improve Free Trade Zone workers' rights

The members of the Economy Commission issued a favorable opinion to reform the Law of Industrial and Commercialization Free Trade Zones.

The purpose of the amendments is to update the regulations according to the Law of Administrative Procedures and to guarantee the rights of the workers of the free zones.

With this initiative, the parliamentarians seek to generate guarantees for the processes of the workers of the free zones. In addition, the proposal contemplates that if the payment of salary and benefits to the worker is not guaranteed, the court will have to respond immediately.

The reform will serve to have efficient regulations and simple procedures that provide legal certainty to the beneficiaries of the regulations that were approved today.

They added that the intention is for the country to have investment, economic growth and development, without leaving aside the guarantee of decent working conditions and good labor practices.

Free trade zones are delimited geographical areas of the national territory, where industrial activities of goods and services or commercial activities are developed, under special tax, customs and foreign trade regulations.

Likewise, Free Trade Zones in El Salvador were created to generate employment, to promote local development and to export. Currently, there are 17 Free Trade Zones in our country.
