Fuel prices to increase up to US$0.06 in El Salvador

The Ministerio de Economía (MINEC) announced the new prices for gasoline and diesel in different areas of the country, for the next fortnight.

The new variations in the reference prices of fuels in the country, for this fortnight, are presented as follows:

  • Superior gasoline will increase $0.05/gallon in the central and eastern zones of the country, in the western zone it will increase $0.06/gallon.
  • Regular gasoline will increase $0.03/gallon in the central and eastern zones of the country, in the western zone it will increase $0.04/gallon.
  • Low sulfur diesel will decrease $0.02/gallon in the central and western zones of the country, in the eastern zone it will decrease $0.01/gallon.

The Ministry of Economy announces that the reference prices for fuels, effective from July 27 to August 9, 2021.

The price variation is due to external factors such as:

  • Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) agrees to progressive increase in oil production for the remainder of 2021.
  • Concern about the fall of the oil reserve -raw material for gasoline and diesel- in the United States, located in Cushing, Oklahoma.

The prices published by the Ministry of Economy are suggested and the service stations are the ones that establish them, according to supply and demand. In El Salvador, liquid fuel prices are liberalized.
