El Salvador and Spain sign US$117 million cooperation instrument

Following up on the Marco de Asociación País El Salvador, España 2023-2026 (MAP), a cooperation instrument signed in march this year, was the purpose of the presentation of this initiative, held this afternoon at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This cooperation instrument, which has an amount of USD$117 million, was presented by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adriana Mira and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain in El Salvador, Carlos de la Morena.

During the activity, Vice Minister Mira thanked Spain for its contribution in the areas of water and sanitation, modernization of public administration and management, and technical and triangular cooperation.

The Country Framework will allow progress to be made in three areas: economic reactivation, social welfare and security, and effective government.

For this purpose, she explained that El Salvador will have an amount of more than 100 million euros, of which 67 million will be in the form of a donation, while more than 43 million will be in the form of a reimbursable loan.

She also indicated that this space will allow the sectors and actors with whom the Spanish Cooperation works in the country to become known. She also pointed out that the strategic lines that make up this new Partnership Framework are aligned with national development priorities.

Last march, the Chancellor of the Republic, Alexandra Hill, signed this collaboration tool together with the Ambassador of Spain, in the framework of the IX Spanish-Salvadorian Joint Commission.

On that occasion, the head of the salvadoran diplomacy indicated that for the construction of this cooperation program they worked with multiple national sectors and civil society in order to listen to their needs and concerns.

The presentation of the Country Partnership Framework was also attended by the director of the El Salvador Agency for International Cooperation (ESCO), Karla de Palma, as well as members of the Embassy of Spain and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.
