Producers of La Libertad highlight the increase of inputs in agricultural packages

Written by Evelyn Alas

Farmers in La Libertad withdraw their Agricultural Packages with the conviction that the harvest will be better than in other years, because the agricultural subsidy is more complete and technical assistance from the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG), the Centro Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria y Forestal (CENTA)  and the Instituto Salvadoreño de Transformación Agraria (ISTA) is added.

The delivery process and technical assistance are effective, thanks to the inter-institutional work that makes it possible to bring the benefit to the real producers and, above all, to reinforce their knowledge of Buenas Prácticas Agrícolas (BPA) to increase seed yields by up to 20% more.

Francisco Morán, a farmer from San Pablo Tacachico, stressed the importance of knowing more about the management of inputs and how to prepare the soil before cultivating, as this will contribute to improve his harvest.

"I thank you for the information you give us to take care of the seed with the treater, and you have explained to us that we don't have to burn the soil", said Francisco, after picking up his Agricultural Package and listening to the recommendations given by Dario Vasquez, ISTA technician.

Now the farmer will be able to better handle his seed to protect it and obtain good germination. Francisco assured that the process to remove the package was agile and he did not have to wait long. "It is a success, they have everything very controlled. This is a great help because, as expensive as compost is, you can't buy it", said the small farmer.

"We are giving them a seed treater to protect the seed. The producers must make a mixture, they have to do it in a plastic bag, stir it, mix it well so that it penetrates and leaves a homogeneous proportion in the grains. This helps protect against pests and prevents animals from eating it, until the seed is born".

Cristabel de Jesús Orellana, a farmer from La Libertad, grows corn, beans and sorghum. She withdrew the Agricultural Package with her daughter-in-law Claudia Yaneth Rivas, since they both benefited, so they are grateful for the support and now with more reason, since the agricultural subsidy has more inputs.

"Now, thanks to God, it is more complete and it is very helpful, because the money we spend to buy fertilizers and cure the corn is used for something else. I am very grateful to God and to the Ministry of Agriculture", said Cristabel.

Claudia, who is a young producer, said that this is the first time she appeared on the list, and highlighted the speed with which she received the benefit: "Thank God the delivery has been very fast and this support helps us a lot to feed our children".
