MINEC signs the first Acuerdo Voluntario de Producción Limpia in El Salvador

The Ministerio de Economía (MINEC) and the Salvadoran business sector signed today the first Acuerdo Voluntario de Producción Limpia (APL),within the framework of the Sustainable Industries project promoted by the International Finance Corporation.

This agreement is part of the Sustainable Industries program being implemented by MINEC with the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group and the Dirección General de Energía, Hidrocarburos y Minas (DGEHM).

An essential actor in this project is the business sector. This agreement includes a series of actions to be carried out voluntarily by the companies interested in participating.

The duration of this project is 15 months, with the objective of enabling companies to achieve sustainable productivity and competitiveness goals.

In addition, companies that join will have many benefits; one of them is to define mechanisms to optimize the use of waste generated by the companies, through the recovery of use and recycling.

The official, María Luisa Hayem, informed that the institution she directs has made non-reimbursable cooperation funds available for this program, which will be delivered to eligible companies that meet the requirements to access this type of financing.

Through this agreement, member companies will be able to receive official certification, which will be linked to voluntary standards or certifications in target markets.

What benefits will companies that join this agreement obtain? Definition of mechanisms to optimize the use of waste, greater savings in raw materials, water and energy, better occupational health and safety conditions, and international recognition of environmentally friendly production.
