124 female electricians are ready to be hired

The 2021 class of electricians is made up of 40 women from the eastern part of the country and an equal number from the central region, as well as 44 from western El Salvador.

Ingrid Perdomo, a young woman from Ahuachapán, for many years dedicated herself to selling various products. But today is different. This day she will receive her certificate as an electrician and with it she hopes to begin a new stage to improve her life as a professional in the field of electricity.

"I see myself getting a job as an electrician to get ahead. AES gives us the opportunity to break gender barriers because for me men and women should have the same opportunities", commented Ingrid.

AES El Salvador, through its program AES Mujer, and Ciudad Mujer, of the Ministry of Local Development, graduated 124 women from the "Residential Electrical Installations" course. Of the total number of graduates, 118 obtained their accreditation as Fourth Category Electrician Technicians before the Superintendencia General de Electricidad y Telecomunicaciones (SIGET), which will allow them to gain employment opportunities or start their own businesses in the electrical sector.

"One of the ways in which we create value and contribute to the sustainability of our business and the community is through diversity and inclusion. Through this type of inclusive social programs, we seek to provide opportunities for entrepreneurship and professional technical training to salvadoran women", said Bernerd Da Santos, Global Vice President of Operations of AES Corporation.

The objective of the program is to provide the participants with the knowledge and tools for the reliable, safe, and efficient installation of a residential electrical system, thus helping them to become entrepreneurs in this trade and obtain income for their development.

In this regard, the Executive President of AES El Salvador, Abraham Bichara, said that this initiative allows the beneficiaries to contribute to the family economy and strengthen their professional development through a decent job. "In AES El Salvador we firmly believe in the potential of women, that is why we are convinced that by creating opportunities for their economic development under equitable conditions, they will be able to shine in any field of work", said Bichara.

The workshop was taught in the three regions of the country by Escuela Especializada en Ingeniería (ITCA-FEPADE), implementing all biosecurity measures for the prevention of COVID-19.

During 2022, AES El Salvador together with Ciudad Mujer and SIGET will continue to support more salvadoran women to continue transforming the salvadoran electricity sector and accelerating the future of energy in the country.

AES Mujer: six years promoting the economic development of salvadoran women

For six years, more than 500 women who have graduated and been certified in the 27 residential electrical installation courses developed by AES have been the protagonists of their own success and development stories, obtaining decent jobs or becoming independent providers of electrical services in their communities.

Many of the women graduates in previous years have thrived in the electrical field, breaking paradigms through their professional empowerment. However, there are still gender gaps that need to be closed to achieve more equal opportunities in this field that has been traditionally practiced by men.
