The financing from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) includes the expansion of the section from Colonia Las Delicias to Poliedro to 8 lanes, and from Poliedro to San Juan Opico to 6 lanes.

During the Plenary Session, a credit of US$245 million was approved by the votes of 74 deputies to finance the construction of the viaduct and other widening works on the highway leading to and from the Los Chorros tourist center.

The purpose of the integral project is to overcome the risk situation faced by thousands of users of the road. In addition, it will contribute to the reduction of vehicular traffic and fuel costs for motorists.

"With this work, road connectivity and safety in economic development strategies will be guaranteed. Nearly 86% of the export activity is in this sector", added Mauricio Ortiz, deputy of the Nuevas Ideas party.

The work contemplates the adequacy of existing overpasses, such as the interchange of Bulevar Monseñor Romero, where the junctions and returns at the Poliedro crossing and the access ramps at the San Juan Opico detour are being adapted.

"We are going to solve two important problems: the vehicular traffic that is generated daily in the area and the vulnerability of the Los Chorros Highway, where we have seen dozens of deaths of salvadorans" said Romeo Rodríguez, minister of Public Works.
