According to industry specialist firm Forward Keys, El Salvador was the most visited destination in Latin America during the first quarter of 2022.  This is measured by flights: both bookings and those that have already been made.

During the first quarter of 2022, the country received 521 thousand visitors, a figure that reflects the improvement over the previous period. Then, by april, the country already accumulated 725 thousand visits, according to figures from the Ministerio de Turismo (MITUR).

For example, the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma registered a positive variation of 125% in the movement of passengers in the terminal. Between January and the first week of july, the Commission noted that it served 1.71 million passengers, a flow equivalent to two-thirds of those it served in all of 2021.

These activities complement investments in Surf City, road interventions and the renovation of national parks.

The local visitor is equally enthusiastic. Data from the Instituto Salvadoreño de Turismo (ISTU) show that domestic tourism spending was US$99.7 million as of last march. This income benefits the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that depend on this activity.

It is important to highlight that the exception regime did not represent an obstacle for the honest population to be able to go out and enjoy themselves with peace of mind.

In order for tourism to continue growing, the head of MITUR, Morena Valdez, invited the population to care for and protect natural destinations, so that they can continue to enjoy their scenic beauty.
