The minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, detailed that in the first 10 months of 2022, even the initial goal proposed for this year, which was 1.9 million visitors, was surpassed.
In fact, at the beginning of november the number of tourists had surpassed 2 million, informed Minister Valdez, for which reason they had to raise the projection from 1.9 to 2.4 million visitors.
Between december 1, 2022 and january 1 of this year , El Salvador received 319,701 foreign tourists, surpassing the projection of 230,000 tourists in that period.
El Salvador is expected to receive around US$2.4 billion in foreign exchange, which will boost the growth of the economy, especially productive activities related to tourism, which improves the economic and social welfare of communities in places where there is greater tourism development.
The recovery is not only confirmed by the Central Government, but it is also supported by the World Tourism Organization (WTO), which ratified that El Salvador is among the first 16 nations in the world that between january and may 2022 had already recovered the income of visitors in relation to the first five months of the pre-pandemic year.
This recovery is based, first, on the excellent management of the COVID-19 pandemic by the Central Government; second, the projection of the country worldwide through the Surf City project; third, the public security actions of the Plan Control Territorial, which have allowed the arrest of more than 60,800 gang members who were murdering, terrorizing and extorting the population.
