Uber: Six safety tips for getting around the city during the holidays

Written by Evelyn Alas

The holiday season is here and to make you travel safer, here are six tips.

1. No mask, no trip: Although the vaccination rate continues to increase, during the holidays we cannot let our guard down.

2. Trip verification by PIN: December is a month of gatherings and festivities, so the Uber app recommends activating the trip verification option by means of a 4-digit code to corroborate that you are boarding the correct vehicle.

This way, the driver-partner will only start the trip when they enter and validate the indicated PIN.

3. Share the Trip: Uber has a real-time location sharing feature with friends and family along the trip, and can be shared with up to 5 trusted contacts. It is useful to let them know how far you are from the meeting point, as well as informing them that you arrived home safely.

4. Audio recording: In case a user has an uncomfortable experience along their trip to their destination, they can activate this tool where users and driver partners can record audio with the app; this recording is used to send a report to Uber's 24/7 support team. The audio is encrypted and only Uber's security team will be able to access it.

5. Ridecheck Technology: As an additional safety measure, users can activate this feature that through GPS technology on the user's and driver partner's devices can identify anomalies such as a long and unexpected stop during a trip that, in some cases, could indicate some safety risk. '

6. 911 call. In case of an emergency, this button allows you to dial 911 directly from the app.
