CEL is replacing obsolete equipment that has reached the end of its useful life in said plant, with the purpose of improving the electricity service and avoiding serious failures in the future.
The investment in this system exceeds one million dollars and guarantees the optimal operation of the hydroelectric power plant, located between the departments of Cabañas and Chalatenango.
From there, clean energy is injected into the national grid for more than 2 million users.
Equipment installed an innovative stainless steel pumping system, which will allow more efficient evacuation of water from the tank located in the sump pit. This new equipment avoids stagnation and guarantees that the water used to generate energy is evacuated out of the powerhouse.
CEL had previously reported on the biennial maintenance of unit number 2 at the Central Hidroeléctrica 5 de Noviembre, located between the departments of Chalatenango and Cabañas.
The works include turbine inspections, hydrostatic tests in the water-oil exchangers, cleaning, and preventive and corrective maintenance to the generating unit, as well as the revision of all the electromechanical systems of the motors, including the repair of grids, gates, transformers, motors, sensors, and tests to the electrical system.
The purpose of this work is to optimize the hydroelectric power plants to guarantee the energy demand during the rainy season. The autonomous company has decided to take advantage of the dry season to carry out these tasks.
