
El Salvador’s overall Producer Price Index (PPI) rose 0.13% in august 2026 compared to july, moving from 139.88 to 140.06 points, according to data from the Banco Central de Reserva (BCR). Year-on-year, the indicator recorded a 3.52% increase compared to august 2025, when it stood at 135.30 points.
Real estate activities recorded the largest monthly increase
Real estate activities recorded the largest monthly increase among the sectors analyzed, with a variation of 2.54%. Its index rose from 129.06 points in july to 132.34 in august. This result led the increases for the period and contrasted with the reductions observed in other economic activities.
Following real estate activities, the largest increases were seen in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning (0.67%, rising from 154.85 to 155.88 points); education (0.44%, from 153.20 to 153.88 points); and accommodation and food service activities (0.39%, from 159.52 to 160.15 points).
Increases were recorded in professional, scientific, and technical activities (0.18%, rising from 102.80 to 102.98 points) and manufacturing industries (0.06%, moving from 144.40 to 144.49 points). Although their variations were smaller, both sectors contributed to the upward trend in producer prices during august.
Regarding activities that remained stable, water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation showed no monthly variation, remaining at 123.21 points. The same occurred with human health and social work activities, where the index held steady at 125.46 points, representing a 0.00% change. Meanwhile, information and telecommunications showed a minimal increase of 0.01%, rising from 121.17 to 121.18 points.
In contrast, transportation and storage recorded the largest monthly decline, falling by 3.47%. Its index dropped from 125.59 points in July to 121.23 in august. Administrative and support service activities also saw a reduction of 1.18%, falling from 135.27 to 133.68 points.
Electricity led the annual increase in the PPI
In the year-over-year comparison, the overall PPI rose by 3.52% compared to august 2025, when the index stood at 135.30 points. The largest increase was in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning, which rose 23.38%, moving from 126.34 to 155.88 points. This was followed by transportation and storage, with a 4.59% rise (from 115.91 to 121.23 points), and real estate activities, with a 4.18% increase (from 127.03 to 132.34 points).
Other sectors also recorded annual increases: other service activities, up 3.64% (from 118.97 to 123.30 points); manufacturing industries, up 3.00% from 140.28 to 144.49 points; accommodation and food service activities, up 2.61% from 156.07 to 160.15 points; education, up 2.39% from 150.29 to 153.88 points; administrative and support service activities, up 1.80% from 131.32 to 133.68 points; professional, scientific, and technical activities, up 1.56% from 101.40 to 102.98 points; and arts, entertainment, and recreation activities, up 1.06% from 143.15 to 144.67 points.
Conversely, two sectors showed year-over-year declines. Water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities fell by 0.15%, while human health and social work activities dropped by 0.07%.
Thus, BCR data show that the overall PPI maintained an upward trend on both a monthly and annual basis, albeit with significant differences between the sectors that recorded increases and those that experienced declines.
