In the most recent report of the Banco Central de Reserva of El Salvador, it is reported that inflation for august 2024 stood at 130.96 points. This value represents a decrease of 0.51 points compared to the 131.47 points registered in July. The reduction indicates a slight deceleration in the growth rate of prices compared to the previous month.
The annual growth rate of inflation has also shown a decline, standing at 1.7% for august, compared to 1.8% in the previous month. This change suggests that annual inflation has begun to moderate, albeit gradually. The decrease in the annual growth rate reflects a trend toward lower inflationary pressure in the short term.
Among the categories that experienced a notable reduction in their price indexes were food and non-alcoholic beverages, which dropped from 159.71 points in july to 157.78 points in august. In addition, transportation also showed a slight decrease, with the index going from 115.08 to 114.53 points in the same period.
Despite these reductions, some categories have shown price increases. Alcoholic beverages, for example, saw an increase in their index, which went from 170.08 points in july to 171.18 points in august. Likewise, the indexes for furniture and household items, as well as restaurants and hotels, also registered increases in their prices during the month of august.
The report reveals a mixed trend in the price indexes, with some categories experiencing decreases and others increases. The slight decrease in headline inflation and the annual growth rate suggests a moderate deceleration in inflationary pressure, although certain areas continue to see cost increases.
