The Defensoría del Consumidor (DC) has managed to recover more than US$29 million in favor of 30,500 salvadorans in the period from january to october 2024, as reported by its president, Ricardo Salazar. This result reflects the CD’s commitment to protect consumers’ rights and guarantee the restitution of their resources in cases of irregularities.
Salazar also ruled out the possibility of shortage of basic food basket products, highlighting the strict market monitoring carried out to prevent unjustified price increases. This effort is considered fundamental to maintain economic stability and access to essential goods for the population.
The Defensoría is working closely with Customs to monitor the prices and tariffs of more than 120 products of the basic food basket. These include dairy products, fruits, vegetables and eggs, which helps to identify and avoid unjustified increases in the cost of these foods.
Salazar emphasized that any price increase will be subject to investigation, with the objective of prosecuting those who speculate with the food of Salvadorans. This firm stance seeks to ensure that consumers are not affected by abusive practices in the market.
