The Agencia de Promoción de Inversión y Exportaciones de El Salvador (INVEST) has strengthened its commitment to Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) by signing an inter-institutional agreement with the Comisión Nacional de la Micro y Pequeña Empresa (CONAMYPE) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This agreement, announced in the framework of the “Foro Nacional ExportaSV”, seeks to support MSEs in the process of exporting their products and services, promoting an export culture in the country.
The ExportaSV Forum aims to strengthen the knowledge of MSEs in key areas of international trade, providing tools to overcome non-tariff barriers, such as lack of knowledge of international requirements and regulations. Through this initiative, small entrepreneurs are expected to improve their ability to compete in global markets.
Since 2023, CONAMYPE has advised more than 1,200 MSEs on export issues, with international sales this year totaling US$4,360,377.51. This figure demonstrates the positive impact that counseling and training have on the sector, contributing to the growth of exports of salvadoran products.
Currently, 240 MSEs advised by CONAMYPE contribute with more than 1,000 products to the country’s exportable supply, highlighting sectors such as food, beverages, textiles and clothing, food agribusiness, natural cosmetics and various manufactured goods. These products are gaining ground in international markets, diversifying the national economy.
In addition, MSEs with an exportable offer have participated in 115 promotional events, including business meetings and appointments, trade missions and international fairs. These activities have been key to connecting small entrepreneurs with potential international buyers.
The main export destination for these MSEs is Central America, which accounts for 43% of sales, followed by the United States with 40%, Europe with 11%, and Mexico with 6%. This diversification of markets demonstrates the export potential of Salvadoran MSEs and their capacity to continue growing globally.
Participants in the forum included MSEs that are already exporting or wish to do so, belonging to sectors such as handicrafts, textiles and clothing, footwear, technological development, food, beverages and food agroindustry. The training will enable these companies to strengthen their competitiveness and expand their presence in international markets.
