In an exclusive interview for dinero.com.sv Dr. Diego Bernardini, professor of medicine at the National University of Mar del Plata, Argentina and expert in longevity, highlighted the relevance of the silver economy and silver entrepreneurship in the current context. According to Bernardini, the market for products and services focused on the elderly is one of the markets that will experience the greatest growth in the coming years. Products such as cosmetics and perfumery are already capitalizing on this phenomenon, benefiting from a rapidly expanding sector.
In this context, Hub Crecenta, a project of Agrisal, with the support of BID Lab, held the forum “What do you want to be when you grow up? Reinvent yourself at 50+”, led by Diego Bernardini, who explained that the silver economy is a recent phenomenon, driven by the aging of the global population and seeks to meet the specific needs of older adults. The demand for products and services is intensifying, since everyone, at some point, will be a consumer of this economy.
Bernardini highlighted the economic impact of the Baby Boomers’ retirement, estimating that it will generate an increase of one percentage point in GDP by 2030. He also identified sectors that are being favored by the growth of the silver economy, including healthcare services, insurance companies, adaptive housing, and transportation services, such as home delivery. These sectors are adapting their strategies to meet the growing demand from an aging population seeking to improve their quality of life.
During the forum, Dr. Bernardini shared with the silver community in El Salvador strategies to discover, develop and optimize all the resources accumulated in the first half of life, making the new longevity and the second half the longest and most important stage of our lives.
This event, the second organized by Hub Crecenta in 2024 and aimed at the silver community in El Salvador, was a space to share in community, open a dialogue and learn together about the opportunities, advantages and challenges of the new longevity. “It is important to take into account the demographic transition, which will be the most concrete modulator of society in the first half of the century, it will affect families, governments, the corporate sector and the media, among others”, said Bernardini.
Hub Crecenta organizes these conferences with the objective of improving productive insertion, entrepreneurial skills and access to financing for people over 50 years of age in El Salvador.
“Hub Crecenta is an innovative and inclusive project, where we seek to respond to the needs and demands of people over 50 in El Salvador, turning the challenge of demographic change into an opportunity for inclusion and growth”, said Ana Hernandez, Innovation and Business Development manager of AGRISAL.
