The Government of El Salvador continues to strengthen tourism as a strategic axis of development, highlighting initiatives such as Surf City and the transformation of national parks, which translates into important income for the country. Eny Aguiñada, president of Instituto Salvadoreño de Turismo (ISTU), highlighted the efforts made to guarantee security, order and cleanliness in these spaces, with the objective of providing pleasant experiences for families.
“For this season we expect 180,000 visitors between nationals and foreigners. Only at the end of november, the national parks administered by the ISTU have received 3.4 million visitors. This commits us even more to continuously improve these spaces that are now perceived in a different way”, Aguiñada said.
The authorities have invested in improving the tourism infrastructure to make the parks more attractive, sustainable, and inclusive, also promoting job creation. An example of this is the Costa del Sol Recreational Park, where the second phase of remodeling is currently underway, with an investment of more than US$7 million. These works, which will be completed by the end of next year, have generated great expectations among the population.
Aguiñada also informed that the San Sebastián tourist terminal in San Vicente, a project that seeks to highlight the particularities of local production and attract more visitors, will soon be completed.
The Government also promotes several initiatives to position El Salvador as a reference tourist destination. This has been recognized by international organizations, such as UN Tourism, which recently highlighted that the country is ready to become a world class destination.
These achievements would not be possible without continuous work in key areas such as environmental care and security, consolidating El Salvador as an attractive place for sustainable tourism.
