The Government of El Salvador has presented a preliminary balance of the emergencies attended within the framework of the New Year’s Eve Plan, which was intensified since Christmas Eve to guarantee the security and tranquility of citizens and tourists enjoying the festivities. The authorities maintain a constant monitoring of the first response institutions to provide timely attention in any eventuality.
According to the director of Civil Protection, Luis Amaya, between december 12 and 24 there have been 896 traffic accidents, which left 519 injured and 60 dead. In addition, 10 simple and 29 deep water rescues were carried out, while two people lost their lives by immersion. The arrest of 69 dangerous drivers was also reported during this period.
In view of these figures, the government has emphasized the need to redouble efforts in the coming days, considered the busiest and busiest during the vacations. The authorities are working to reduce incidents and ensure that the festivities are safe for all citizens.
A highlight of the preventive measures is the supervision of the handling of gunpowder, especially by minors. The National Civil Protection System stresses the importance of adult supervision to avoid accidents related to pyrotechnic products.
The director of the Fire Department, Baltazar Solano, warned about the commercialization and use of prohibited products, such as whistlers, firecrackers, Chinese missiles and soccer balls, among others. These items have been responsible for fires and other incidents, and the population is urged not to purchase them.
