The Government of El Salvador registers important figures of visitors’ income at the end of 2024, the data reflects an increase and it is thanks to the different measures that this administration has established. The head of the Ministry of Tourism, Morena Valdez, reported that the goals in the area were exceeded, and described as “interesting” what happened in the last months in 2024 and highlighted the projections for this year.
“We have received 3,956,794 international visitors in the year 2024, 80% are tourists, meaning that 3.2 million of them stayed more than one night in El Salvador”, said Valdez.
The official pointed out that there were more tourists and less excursionists, this represents an increase of 17% in visitors, and exemplified that El Salvador is receiving visitors that it did not have post-pandemic, for example, Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia, because they want to see what is happening in the country. From Costa Rica, for example, they want to feel safe, said the official.
The main countries of origin of tourists were: 39% from the United States, 26% from Guatemala, Honduras remained with 16% and 19% from the rest of the world.
“In december, we received 431,674 visitors. Since 2019 we compare the best, and that month was the one in which we received the most visitors in these years”, highlighted the head of Tourism. If we continue with this growth trend, by 2025 we would be receiving 4.2 million visitors, he said.
The most visited places are: the Tourist Complex of the Port of La Libertad, the National Library of El Salvador, Sunset Park, the Cerro Verde Natural Park and the Balboa Natural Park. All these places are a testimony to national and foreign visitors about the transformation experienced by spaces that were previously abandoned.
MITUR will continue to promote tourism and the necessary infrastructure, in addition to actions such as the exception regime that ensure an environment of tranquility for salvadoran families.
