The Fundación Salvadoreña para la Salud y el Desarrollo Humano (FUSAL) delivered 31 backpacks equipped with emergency kits to rescue groups that respond to emergencies: : Cruz Roja Salvadoreña, Cuerpo de Camilleros Voluntarios de El Salvador, Comando de Salvamento and Cruz Verde Salvadoreña. This donation, made thanks to Direct Relief, an international humanitarian organization, is part of the ongoing commitment of FUSAL’s Humanitarian Aid Program to improve the emergency response capacity of the most vulnerable populations in El Salvador.
For more than 38 years, FUSAL has been a leading foundation in the response to emergencies and humanitarian crises in the country. The country’s high vulnerability to disasters, such as the recent earthquakes, highlights the importance of constant and effective preparedness. In this context, it is essential to provide front-line emergency teams, such as the Cruz Roja Salvadoreña, Cruz Verde and Cuerpo de Camilleros Voluntarios de El Salvador, with essential supplies. These emergency kits are valued at more than US$13,500 and are in line with the commitment of FUSAL’s Humanitarian Aid Program to protect the health and safety of the salvadoran population.
Emergency kits, designed to respond to any type of critical situation, include: wound care products: gauze, tweezers, bandages, topical antibiotics, warm compresses, eye pads, instant ice pack, iodine prep solution; analgesic medications for adults and children; medical supplies such as thermometers, stethoscopes, otoscopes, oral and nasopharyngeal airway kits, examination gloves, oximeters; and personal protective equipment, such as goggles, safety glasses, CPR rescue mask; among multiple other supplies to respond effectively.
This donation has been possible thanks to the generosity of Direct Relief, a strategic ally in FUSAL’s Humanitarian Aid Program, and the efforts of the Salvadoran American Humanitarian Foundation (SAHF), FUSAL’s sister foundation based in Miami, USA. For more than 15 years, this alliance with Direct Relief has proven to be a vital source of support, channeling donations of medicines and medical supplies to attend to the neediest patients in El Salvador.
“Direct Relief’s confidence in FUSAL and SAHF reaffirms our ability to distribute high-impact donations that improve the health and well-being of salvadorans in critical situations. We are deeply grateful for this support that allows us to continue with our mission to respond efficiently to emergencies”, mentioned Katty Tobar, Head of FUSAL’s Humanitarian Aid Program.
“Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, we provide our pre-hospital care service with technical and professional personnel who voluntarily help people who require immediate attention, this work is facilitated with the support of the supplies received from FUSAL, which help us to strengthen our work, thanks to this we have been able to save lives and help people with limited resources with deliveries of food aid, medical and visual health”, said Saul Alexander Torres, Delegate of Comandos de Salvamento Nejapa.
FUSAL was born 38 years ago with its Humanitarian Aid Program with the objective of contributing to improve access to health in an equitable and timely manner, as well as providing attention to humanitarian crises in vulnerable populations in our country. This is done through the management, in conjunction with SAHF, of supplies such as: medicines, medical supplies, clothing, footwear, hygiene and personal care products, food, educational materials, wheelchairs, orthopedic supplies, agricultural equipment, among others.
In more than three decades, the organization has channeled through its Humanitarian Aid Program and with the support of SAHF more than $874 million in donations to hundreds of beneficiary institutions, both public and in the social sector, with presence in the 14 departments of the country through the programs and projects of FUSAL and allied organizations.
