Given the growing concern about the risks associated with the use of cyberspace, Fundación MAPFRE has launched the educational campaign “Controla tu Red”, focused on promoting a healthy and responsible use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) among salvadoran children and young people. This initiative seeks to raise awareness of the dangers of the digital environment and encourage safe habits in the use of the Internet and social networks.
The program addresses various digital risks affecting youth, such as cyberbullying, sexting, grooming and abusive use of electronic devices. These practices can have significant emotional and physical consequences, including anxiety, depression, insomnia, and impaired academic performance. In addition, online anonymity and peer pressure can facilitate harmful behaviors among adolescents.

“Control your Network” offers a variety of educational resources designed for students, teachers, and families. Among them are guides for parents and educators, didactic activities adapted to different educational levels, informative triptychs, and posters for the classroom. These materials are designed to encourage reflection and dialogue on the appropriate use of ICTs and to provide strategies for preventing and dealing with online risk situations.

One of the most important components of the program are the educational workshops held in schools, aimed at students from 3rd grade of Primary Education to 4th grade of Secondary Education. These workshops, facilitated by specialized psychologists, aim to help young people identify warning signs, assess their relationship with ICTs and develop skills to resolve conflicts in the digital environment.
In addition, the campaign includes the play “Conexiones Peligrosas” which dramatizes common situations related to the misuse of the Internet and social networks. Through this performance, the aim is to raise awareness among young people about the dangers of cyberspace and promote critical reflection on their digital habits.
Fundación MAPFRE has also conducted research to better understand the patterns of technology use among adolescents. These studies have revealed that the cell phone is the device most used by young people, mainly for activities such as chatting, listening to music, and using social networks. The findings have been fundamental to adapt the contents of the program to the needs and realities of salvadoran youth.

“Controla tu Red” is a comprehensive initiative that seeks to empower Salvadoran youth to navigate safely in cyberspace. Through education, awareness and support of parents and teachers, the program aims to build a responsible digital culture that protects the emotional and physical well-being of the new generations.
