In line with its commitment to operate in a responsible and sustainable manner, Banco Promerica El Salvador continues to implement social and environmental impact initiatives as part of its sustainability strategy.

Aware that actions must be carried out in and from Banco Promerica, the institution has adopted practices in its operations that allow it to reduce its carbon footprint, and as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility it develops activities that have an impact on the environment and benefit the community, improving its surroundings.

One of the most recent milestones is the installation of solar panels in three of its main locations: La Gran Vía Financial Center, Madreselva Agency and San Miguel Roosevelt Agency. This action not only reaffirms its commitment to energy efficiency, but also represents a significant impact on emissions reduction. It is estimated that these panels will generate 175,000 kWh of clean energy in their first year of operation, which will prevent the emission of 107 tons of CO2 per year, the equivalent of planting 4,800 trees each year.
This implementation is part of a comprehensive vision that the bank has adopted to drive sustainability in its operations and contribute to the development of more resilient and environmentally responsible communities.
“At Banco Promerica, sustainability is an essential part of our identity and our way of doing business. Our Sustainable Banking model seeks to promote a balance between economic development, social investment, and environmental viability. The installation of solar panels reflects this vision and our commitment to energy efficiency”, said Laura Ávalos, Assistant Manager of Sustainability and Correspondent Banking.
This commitment to sustainability is not limited to energy efficiency, but encompasses various initiatives designed to promote the appropriate and responsible use of resources for the benefit of the community:
- Clean energy: the generation of renewable energy through solar panels will allow savings of up to 80% in energy costs in the Agencies where they have been installed.
- Sustainable mobility: to promote clean transportation and reduce its carbon footprint, the bank has installed bicycle stations in Agencia Paseo, Agencia Madreselva and Centro Financiero La Gran Vía, encouraging an environmentally friendly means of transportation for employees and customers.
- Waste management: through its recycling center at the La Gran Vía Financial Center, in 2024 close to one ton of paper was recycled, promoting a culture of responsible consumption inside and outside the bank.
- Reforestation campaigns: every year, Promericanos volunteers develop an initiative that benefits the community; this year the Los Almendros Protected Natural Area, Los Farrallones complex, Sonsonate, was reforested. Initially, the goal was to plant 300 trees, however, a grand total of 500 trees were planted, which are monitored to ensure their growth.

Banco Promerica reaffirms its intention to lead by example in the region, integrating sustainability into its business strategy and promoting responsible practices that benefit the planet as well as its customers, employees, and communities. With these initiatives, the bank not only optimizes its operations, but also actively contributes to mitigating climate change and building a green future for all.
