The Dirección de Obras Municipales (DOM) officially launched the Plan Nacional de Limpieza de Calles y Quebradas en Zonas Urbanas del País this sunday, July 20, with a press conference held in Colonia El Tránsito and South Avenue, in the district of San Marcos, San Salvador Sur.
To prevent flooding due to torrential rains or extreme temporary conditions, as well as diseases associated with water stagnation such as dengue, zika and chikungunya, the DOM develops from this weekend, the National Plan for street cleaning and maintenance of streams in urban areas of the country.

The measure is focused on preventing overflows, floods and protecting the population living in vulnerable areas.
The DOM Brigade, which oversees the plan, has identified risk areas and will apply a protocol of actions such as the collection and removal of waste in rivers, streams, streets, sidewalks, vacant lots, and drains, who simultaneously, but in other areas of the country, continue to carry out fumigation and abatization campaigns in homes, churches, schools, and parks, and others.

To date, more than 2.3 million homes have been intervened with fumigations and abatizations nationwide.
The DOM has deployed more than 3,000 technicians and vectors duly equipped with rakes, shovels, and ice axes, among others, to collect in a first phase, the largest number of debris clogging streets, sidewalks, rivers, and streams of 131 urban centers of the country such as San Salvador, Chalatenango, Usulután, La Paz, and San Miguel, among others.

For the success of the plan, the DOM asks the communities to join this effort, being part of the preventive actions in the collection of useless objects that obstruct the natural passage of water, but above all, to commit themselves to avoid throwing garbage in places not suitable for it.

Together we can prevent flooding and eliminate mosquito breeding sites!!!!
