This monday, the Ministry of Tourism, in coordination with the Ministry of Education, held the 2nd National Congress of Tourism Educators 2025, marking the end of the annual training process and the updating of content required for future training, in accordance with the current demand in this sector.
“According to UN Tourism data, 60% of employees in the sector are millennials, centennials, and Generation Z; this means we have to train the new generations so that tourism is sustainable and inclusive. That is what business owners are asking of us, because they need trained and specialized human resources”, emphasized the minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez.
The congress recognized the efforts of 112 teachers nationwide who work with second-year high school students in a culinary arts program. During the event, they also received training from the Superintendency of Sanitary Regulation to develop new educational programs and specialize future high school graduates in tourism business administration.
“El Salvador is now a leading tourism destination, and the statistics confirm it. What sets it apart is its people—something that cannot be imposed, but cultivated, and that is achieved through tools and education. We will do this starting in the classroom. Most importantly, you are working with young people in tourism services in different parts of the country. Only in this way can we move forward in this crucial task”, said minister of Education Karla Trigueros.
According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, this sector is growing every year, receiving an increasing number of visitors. 2024 ended with 3.9 million visitors, while the Ministry’s goal for 2025 is 4 million visits; as of october 2025, 3.3 million visits had been recorded.
