The Fundación Rafael Meza Ayau (FRMA), in partnership with WALMART and the Escuela Salesiana María Auxiliadora, inaugurated a STEAM classroom at the Escuela Salesiana María Auxiliadora, as part of the Soyapango High Impact project. This established educational initiative aims to strengthen access to innovative education and promote the holistic development of children and youth in the municipality.
The Fundación Rafael Meza Ayau, addressing the social challenges faced by various sectors of salvadoran society, develops projects in partnership with private sector companies. These projects focus on implementing high-impact initiatives in areas of significant economic activity. In this context, since may 2021, the Foundation has been implementing a project that aims to improve the quality of life for families in the municipality of Soyapango by connecting key sectors to increase opportunities for economic and social development in the area.

Given Walmart’s significant presence in the Soyapango district through its stores, the company donated ten thousand US dollars (US$10,000.00) to support the implementation of the components of the Soyapango High Impact project, which include: (1) Collective Impact, (2) Economic Growth, (3) Youth Development, which incorporates the implementation of STEAM technology in schools throughout the municipality, and (4) Early Childhood. Through the implementation of these components, the project benefits more than 10,000 people, strengthening their access to educational, economic, and social opportunities in Soyapango.
Within the framework of this initiative, the STEAM Classroom, implemented at the Escuela Salesiana María Auxiliadora, is integrated into the school’s educational model as a permanent space for learning, innovation, and the development of future skills. This classroom directly impacts 380 people, primarily benefiting 350 girls from fourth grade through high school, as well as 30 teachers, by strengthening their educational and technological competencies. Additionally, this initiative generates an indirect impact on approximately 1,000 people through extracurricular programs, community activities, and weekend workshops, extending its reach to families and the wider community.

“This STEAM Classroom is an example of how collaborative work between private companies, foundations, and the educational community expands educational opportunities and generates a real impact, both direct and indirect, on the children and youth of Soyapango”, said Carla Meyer, executive director of the Fundación Rafael Meza Ayau.
“At Walmart, we believe that investing in education is investing in people’s development. Through initiatives like the STEAM Classroom, we reaffirm our commitment to strengthening future skills and the well-being of the communities near our stores, creating opportunities for girls, young women, and teachers in Soyapango”, said Sandra Ganuza, Walmart representative.

“Education is a matter of the heart, and God alone holds the key. The happiness of nations depends on the sound education of youth”, said Sister Eva Doris, quoting Don Bosco. “The STEAM Classroom represents a concrete opportunity for our students, teachers and the entire educational community, by incorporating technological innovation into the educational process and opening new possibilities for learning, cultivating critical and creative thinking, which impact not only the school, but also families and the community”, said Sister Eva Doris, director of the Escuela Salesiana María Auxiliadora.

With this initiative, the Fundación Rafael Meza Ayau, WALMART and the Escuela Salesiana María Auxiliadora reaffirm their joint commitment to strengthening a comprehensive and innovative education that expands learning opportunities and contributes to the development of children and youth in Soyapango.
