El Salvador International Airport registered a significant increase in activity during the 2026 Holy Week holiday period, exceeding 172,000 passengers traveling through it, including arrivals, departures, and connecting flights. This figure reflects the dynamism of air traffic in the country and consolidates the airport as a key hub for regional connectivity.
According to data from the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA), an average of over 15,600 passengers were served daily during the week, demonstrating a steady flow throughout the entire season, even on peak days. This performance allowed for stable and efficient operations during one of the busiest periods of the year.
The increase in passenger traffic is closely linked to the growth of tourism in the country. In recent years, El Salvador has strengthened its position as an international destination, driven by improvements in security, tourism promotion, and visitor attraction, which have increased tourist arrivals and the movement of salvadorans abroad.

Compared to the same period in 2015, the airport registered a 4% increase in total passengers, confirming a sustained upward trend in airport activity. This growth reflects both the recovery and expansion of the tourism and air transport sectors in the country.
The performance during Holy Week also reflects the optimization of operational processes within the airport terminal. Coordination among different institutions and the efficient use of resources have ensured agile, safe, and orderly service for users, even in the face of high traffic volumes.

Airport authorities emphasized that these results reaffirm the airport’s operational capacity and its strategic role in connecting El Salvador with the rest of the world. They also indicated that work would continue on strengthening infrastructure and services to support the sustained growth of tourism and facilitate a better passenger experience.
With over 172,000 passengers traveling through the airport in a single week, El Salvador International Airport is solidifying its role as one of the main drivers of air travel in the region, contributing to the country’s economic development and international profile.
