The Tribunal Supremo Electoral (TSE) announced the opening of the registration period for political parties to submit their candidate applications for the 2027 elections. According to the official calendar, the process for presidential and vice-presidential candidates and members of the Legislative Assembly will begin on october 1 and end on november 19, 2026.
Applications for the presidency and vice-presidency, as well as for the Legislative Assembly, must be submitted by political parties to the TSE’s General Secretariat during the established period. The Tribunal will be responsible for receiving and processing the documentation for these candidacies.
For municipal councils, the registration period will be shorter. The calendar establishes that applications may be submitted from november 9 to 19, 2026, and must be delivered to the respective Junta Electoral Departamental (JED). November 19 will be the deadline for submitting these applications.
The registration process does not end with the receipt of the documents. The electoral calendar includes subsequent stages for reviewing applications, deciding on their registration, and notifying applicants of the decisions. In the case of congressional seats, for example, the TSE establishes stages for correcting any problems with the documentation and for the final registration or rejection of candidacies.
For municipal councils, subsequent phases are also planned after the submission of applications. The calendar includes the resolution of registrations, the corresponding notification, the possibility of correcting problems, and subsequently, the final registration or rejection of applications.
These dates are part of the organization of the 2027 elections, with election day scheduled for February 28, 2027. The TSE updated the electoral calendar following reforms that incorporated the presidential election into the same electoral event in which members of the Legislative Assembly and municipal councils will be elected.
The calendar also establishes the start dates for campaign activities. For presidential and vice-presidential candidates, campaigning will begin on october 27, 2026; for members of the Legislative Assembly, on december 27, 2026; and for municipal councils, on january 27, 2027. In all three cases, the campaign period will end on february 24, 2027. With the opening of these deadlines, political parties enter a new stage of the 2027 electoral process, in which they must submit the documentation for their candidates seeking to participate in the election to the corresponding authorities. The TSE has published the official electoral calendar with the various dates and stages of the process.
