“La Selecta” played out a 1-1 draw against Martinique this monday in the final match of the Liga de Naciones de Concacaf 2026/2027 A group stage. The match took place at the Stade Municipal Pierre-Aliker in Fort-de-France, Martinique, and left both teams outside the spots that grant direct access to the quarterfinals.
El Salvador took the lead just three minutes in, when Jefferson Valladares capitalized on a ball recovery and scored from the center of the box to make it 1-0. The goal gave the salvadoran team an early advantage.
Martinique responded in the second half, finding the equalizer in the 56th minute. Janis Antiste received a back-heel pass from Brighton Labeau and unleashed a powerful shot from the center of the box, beating the Salvadoran goalkeeper to level the score at 1-1.
After the equalizer, neither team managed to score again, and the match ended in a draw. This result concluded both teams’ participation in the group stage of this edition of the Nations League.
The draw impacted the Group B standings. Guatemala finished as the leader and Jamaica took second place; consequently, both teams advanced to the League A quarterfinals. Guatemala defeated Suriname 1-0, while Honduras and Jamaica drew 1-1 in their respective matches on the final matchday.
For El Salvador, the draw against Martinique meant finishing in sixth place in Group B. Martinique finished fifth, so both teams will have to play in the League A/C Play-In round, based on the final group stage standings. “La Selecta” headed into the final match following a victory over Martinique in their opening game of this stage, where they won 3-1 at the Estadio Jorge “El Mágico” González. In that match, Brayan Gil scored twice and Harold Osorio netted the third goal for El Salvador.
With monday’s 1-1 draw, El Salvador concluded its group stage campaign and must now continue its journey in the Play-In, while Guatemala and Jamaica will represent Group B in the League A Quarter-finals.
