Through his official networks, the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, notified the population that the Agro-markets of the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadearía (MAG), will be open from tuesday to sunday from this day, in order that they can buy food at fair prices and reach the pocket, also allows salvadorans to have access to these, because often for lack of time it is not possible to approach on weekends.
The MAG shared the different prices of the products of the basic food basket among which are: Tomato at US$0.10 per unit, tomato small equivalent to 15 units at US$1, white onion the 5 units at US$1, purple Onion at US$1 the 3 units, yellow onion the pound at US$0. 40, cabbage the unit at US$1.60, potato US$0.60 per pound, large potato at US$0.95 per pound, lettuce the unit at US$0.65, carrot at US$0.35 per pound, broccoli at US$1 per unit, lisbon cucumber at US$1 for 4 units, green chile at US$0.20 per unit, and güisquil at US$0.75 per unit.
These markets will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from tuesday to sunday, located in the departments of: Ahuachapán, Santa Ana, Sonsonate, La Libertad, San Salvador, Cuscatlán, La Paz and San Vicente.
These markets support local farmers by offering them a space to sell their products directly to the consumer, eliminating intermediaries and increasing their income. By offering products at fair prices, food inflation can be mitigated and price speculation in the market can be avoided.
With extended hours and locations in several departments, Agro-markets facilitate access to fresh and affordable food for a greater number of people, improving the quality of life in the communities.
