El Salvador’s Legislative Assembly has taken a significant step forward in the area of security by approving, with 57 votes in favor, a decree that modifies the current Budget Law. This decree will enable the allocation of US$600,000 for the construction of a perimeter wall at the Zacatecoluca Special Health Care Center, located in the department of La Paz. This project is part of the national security strategy under the Territorial Control Plan.
The initiative, presented by the Ministry of Finance, seeks to strengthen the control and security of both inmates and administrative personnel at the center. The construction of a 2,800-meter-long, 4-meter-high wall will not only protect the facilities, but will also improve the center’s operating conditions, ensuring a safer environment for everyone.
This project is crucial to the country’s security strategy, which seeks to reduce violence and improve prison management. By ensuring adequate infrastructure, El Salvador advances its commitment to a more efficient and humane justice system, which, in the long term, could contribute to the social reintegration of inmates.
The implementation of this measure is expected to begin soon, once published in the Official Gazette. With this investment, El Salvador is on the path to improve its security and justice policies, benefiting not only the inmates, but also the surrounding community, by reducing the risks associated with insecurity in these centers.
