The Legislative Assembly of El Salvador approved adding US$580,849 to the budget of the Fiscalía General de la República de El Salvador (FGR) to strengthen the academic and technical training of prosecutorial staff, as well as to advance the modernization project of its facilities. The decision was approved with 57 votes during the 101st plenary session.
The funds will allow for the creation of the Instituto Especializado de Educación Superior en Formación Fiscal, an initiative aimed at improving the professional preparation of prosecutors and technical staff involved in the investigation of crimes and the conduct of criminal proceedings.
According to what was approved by the legislators, the money will be incorporated through an amendment to the 2026 Budget Law, with the objective of financing part of the project entitled “Construcción, Equipamiento y Modernización de las Oficinas Centrales of Fiscalía General de la República de El Salvador”.

The investment includes the acquisition of furniture and equipment for a new headquarters complex for the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR), which will also house the higher education institute. This infrastructure aims to consolidate a space dedicated to the ongoing training of prosecutorial staff, thereby contributing to improved quality of criminal investigations and a stronger justice system.
The modernization project includes the construction of a building complex with various areas for institutional operations. These include two six-story towers, one for the legal department and the other for administrative offices. Additionally, a dedicated building for prosecutorial training is planned, along with spaces for the institutional archives and public service areas.

As detailed during the legislative debate, the funds supporting this project are part of a US$44,887,500 loan granted by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).
With the approved allocation, the Fiscalía General de la República de El Salvador (FGR) will move forward with equipping and adapting the new facilities, which will allow it to consolidate the specialized institute and expand its institutional capacity in criminal investigation, professional training, and citizen services.
