Construction of the new bridge over the Guastena River, in the El Conacaste canton, Concepción Quezaltepeque district, Chalatenango Sur, is 60% complete, according to the minister of Public Works, Romeo Rodríguez Herrera.
The project is part of the national infrastructure plan promoted by the Government, which includes work on at least 20 bridges this year in different parts of the country.
Technical progress
During the most recent project inspection, the concrete slab was poured, using 130 cubic meters of concrete, a key step in the bridge’s structure.
The official explained that the infrastructure is being built with a reinforced concrete structure, designed to withstand the area’s climatic conditions and guarantee a lifespan of over 100 years.
Furthermore, the new bridge will have greater hydraulic capacity, reducing the risk of flooding during the rainy season and preventing the damage that has historically affected the community.

Impact on the population
The project will directly benefit more than 6,000 residents of the El Conacaste canton and surrounding areas, who for years have faced difficulties getting around during the rainy season due to the increased flow of the river.
According to the Minister of Public Works, approximately 1,000 vehicles travel through the area daily, so the new infrastructure will improve connectivity and road safety in the region.
More projects underway
Furthermore, the new bridge will have greater hydraulic capacity, reducing the risk of flooding during the rainy season and preventing the damage that has historically impacted the community.
The minister also reported that similar projects are underway at other strategic locations throughout the country, including:
• The bridge in La Hachadura.
• A new bridge at kilometer 16 of the Los Chorros section.
• The Los Guarumos bridge, which will be 280 meters long and similar to the viaduct on the road to Surf City and the Los Chorros viaduct.
• Bridge projects in the eastern region.

With these interventions, the Government seeks to strengthen road infrastructure, improve connectivity between communities, and reduce vulnerability to weather events, especially in areas historically affected during the rainy season.
Construction of the bridge over the Guastena River continues and is expected to guarantee safe year-round transit for families in Concepción Quezaltepeque and the surrounding area once completed.
