The Canadian Embassy in El Salvador recently inaugurated the commemorations of 65 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries with the presentation of the exhibition “San Salvador en el Umbral del Tiempo”, by salvadoran-canadian artist Fabricio Valdivieso, an archaeologist and PhD in education.

The event, held at the Biblioteca Nacional de El Salvador (BINAES), was attended by the Canadian Ambassador to El Salvador, Mylène Paradis, and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adriana Mira.

The exhibition offers a journey through the Historic Center of San Salvador, encompassing different stages of its urban evolution. Valdivieso employs mixed media techniques, from metal and wood to hand-engraving, to connect historical documents, maps, and urban vestiges with a contemporary perspective.

The exhibition will be open to the public at BINAES until april 30, 2026.
During the opening, authorities highlighted the historical and cultural significance of this anniversary and the role of art as a bridge between nations. Ambassador Paradis noted:
“Today we celebrate more than an exhibition: we celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations between Canada and El Salvador, a history marked by respect, cooperation, and friendship. This anniversary invites us to reflect on the bridges we have built, not only in the political and economic spheres, but also in the cultural sphere, where art acts as a universal language”.
Vice Minister Mira said:
“Together with the ambassador, we are beginning the commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between El Salvador and Canada. Over these years, these two nations have built a bilateral relationship based on understanding and collaboration, which allows us to implement actions to generate opportunities for economic and social development,” said Vice Minister Adriana Mira.
Throughout 2026, the Embassy of Canada will carry out a cultural and diplomatic agenda that will include artistic, academic, and cooperative activities, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development, equity, and shared prosperity.
