The Instituto Salvadoreño del Café (ISC) began the Cup of Excellence El Salvador 2025 contest, the process began with the calibration of tasters, where after three cupping sessions the participants were evaluated on their consistency and ability to qualify high quality coffees.

“Twenty-two cuppers were registered, from them 12 were chosen for the national jury. The samples that have come for the competition are going to be evaluated, in a first instance, by national judges and the best samples will pass to an international jury. Then three national tasters will be chosen to make up the international panel”, explained ISC President Mauricio Sansivirini.

The American Paul Vernon Songer, sent by Aliance For Coffee Excellence, is the leading judge of the contest. One of his responsibilities is to calibrate the tasters and give the endorsement to the 12 tasters that will go on to the national jury.

Salvadoran coffee is one of the agricultural products that has achieved good acceptance in international markets. In this sense, the Cup of Excellence contest contributes to position the brand Café de El Salvador and to the commercialization of coffee growers through the international coffee auction.
“These events are carried out through the Aliance For Coffee Excellence, an international institution that develops this same competition in different producing countries. These results are then reflected at an international level because after the awards ceremony there is an international auction of all the participating coffees. The opportunities that can be generated through this type of activities are infinite, in fact, many producers have participated only once and have won, they make a first sale and the relationship with international clients is already established”, said
Sansivirini

Gabriela Flores, professional cupper and quality manager of a French coffee importer, stated that these events show the best coffees to the world. “This is a contest that allows us to select the best coffees of the country and show them to the world, to international buyers. I really like to appreciate the quality that we have, which is a coffee of international quality, appreciated by many countries that buy coffee from us, said Gabriela. Flores has been participating in the Cup of Excellence contest for a decade, so she did not hesitate to be part of this edition, and her experience contributes to the search for the best salvadoran coffee.

Cup of Excellence 2025 is another example of government support for the country’s coffee sector. The president of the ISC recalled that the golden bean has managed to capture the expectation and attention of new destinations such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Turkey, the Netherlands and South Korea.
