The salvadoran Ministry of Finance has seized a significant quantity of allegedly counterfeit luxury sunglasses at the Cargo Terminal of Aeropuerto Internacional San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez. The merchandise, originating in China, was marked with logos of well-known brands such as Gucci, Dior, and Chanel, and is suspected of infringing intellectual property rights. This operation is part of border enforcement actions to protect copyright and industrial rights.

Salvadoran authorities have dealt a severe blow to the trade of counterfeit goods by seizing 505 pairs of luxury brand sunglasses at Aeropuerto Internacional San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez. The operation, carried out by the Dirección General de Aduanas (DGA), seeks to strengthen the protection of intellectual property in the country.

The shipment, consisting of seven packages, bore logos of exclusive brands such as Balenciaga, Prada, Versace, and Louis Vuitton, among others. The goods, of chinese origin, were presumably counterfeit or contraband merchandise. This seizure is the result of the administrative provision that allows the DGA to act at the borders.
These types of operations are crucial to combat piracy and illegal trade, which not only affects legitimate brands but can also pose a risk to consumer health. Counterfeit merchandise lacks the necessary quality controls to guarantee, in this case, adequate UV protection.

Customs has set a deadline for those affected or legitimate brands to come forward and express their interest in the process. The deadline for applications is september 16, 2025. Interested parties should contact customs authorities for legal procedures.
This seizure underscores El Salvador’s commitment to combating the trade of illegal products. Authorities reiterate their call to the public to prefer original products. Customs has provided a telephone number and email address for inquiries regarding the procedure.
