The Defensoría del Consumidor reported several non-compliances during the development of the Plan Verano de Semana Santa promoted by the Government of El Salvador. At the end of the operation, 513 inspections were carried out in different commercial establishments in the country, of which 32.5% presented findings of irregularities, according to the president of the institution, Ricardo Salazar.

Among the main faults detected were 73 cases related to the use of scales that did not comply with calibration regulations. These anomalies were identified in supermarkets, as well as in businesses dedicated to the sale of dairy products, butcher’s shops, and candy stores, affecting transparency in transactions with consumers.
Salazar also detailed that 62 establishments were found that did not have the mandatory mechanisms to receive and process consumer complaints. This omission violates the right of citizens to file complaints in the event of possible damages to their economic interests.

Another significant irregularity was the marketing of expired products. In total, 38 cases of this nature were detected, which led to the immediate destruction of 230 products. These were found in restaurants, convenience stores and pharmacies, which represents a health risk to consumers.
The Defensoría del Consumidor will continue with these surveillance operations to protect the rights of consumers and ensure that businesses comply with current regulations, especially during high demand seasons such as Easter.
