The Defensoría del Consumidor reaffirms its commitment to the salvadoran population through strong actions of surveillance and protection of consumer rights. During the first semester of 2025, the institution has developed 2,396 verifications throughout the national territory, with a focus on prices, technical regulations, and compliance with the Consumer Protection Law.

The president of the Defensoría del Consumidor, Ricardo Salazar, informed that as a result of these inspections, 125 reports were registered for non-compliance related to expired products. As a result, 1,452 expired products were identified, mainly in kitchen areas, representing 69% of the cases. These products were withdrawn from the market by means of precautionary measures for their subsequent destruction, thus protecting the health and safety of the public.
In addition to the surveillance of products and services, the institution has intensified its attention to consumers, assisting more than 60,000 people in the first half of the year. These efforts include more than 47,000 advisory services provided and more than 12,000 complaints received, which demonstrates a high demand from Salvadorans to exercise their rights as consumers.
The sectors with the highest number of complaints are financial services, with 42% of the total number of complaints -equivalent to 25,000-, followed by services in general with 23% (14,000 complaints), and then telecommunications, electricity, and vehicle services.

One of the most outstanding achievements in this period has been the economic recovery in favor of the consumer population. The institution has been able to restore a record US$15.3 million through conciliation processes, direct intervention, and legal actions, benefiting more than 8,800 consumers throughout the country.
These results reflect the effectiveness of the preventive and corrective work of the Defensoría del Consumidor, consolidating it as a key entity in the protection of the economic rights of the population and in the construction of a fairer and more transparent market.
